This western Shawnee staple is a great place if you are looking for an extensive beer list and some quality wings. They offer an original buffalo wing along with a special off-menu “finished on the grill” wing. They basically take the wing, once it’s been fully sauced, and throw it back on the grill for a nice charred taste. Both go for $11 per 1 lb (about 8 wings).
For some reason, the wings finished on the grill had more spice and therefor the heat and flavor scores increased across the board. The original wings were lacking any spice but had a good buttery flavor. What was lacking in flavor was made for up with great crispy skin and well-cooked chicken.
The grill-finished wings got a final score of 6.5. Whatever the grill imparted on those wings, it was a flavor miracle.
Wings at Barley’s are plated as simply as can be, but that didn’t make us mad. They come with celery and your choice or ranch or blue cheese dressings. The blue cheese has a nice flavor that really goes well with the grill-finished wings.
We recommend Barley‘s for any pre- or post-game meal if you find yourself out on this end of town competing at the Mid-America Sports complex. Barley’s has a fun environment with a huge bar area. You can even sign up for their bar program and get a personalized engraved mug that they hang over the bar. Cheers to that!
